After awhile there seemed to be a little more topography

Here is a small part of the Nazca Lines

The two of us in the tower

The first day of riding together went really well. Zoe started to have fun on the back of the bike taking in the scenery and snapping pictures to her hearts content.

We spent the night at what appeared to be a decent hotel. It was clean and the rooms were nice. However, our room was facing a busy intersection on the street one story below us.

Almost the entire wall facing the street was made of glass. Giving little to no noise insulation.

The traffic light at the intersection below us was out. So in order to safely pass through the intersection all of the cabbies would honk their horns. It was a bad night. The horns went until 5 am. There was a variety of horn sounds and honking styles. We really appreciated some of the obvious skill and honed technique used to by the taxi drivers to signal their passing. I started to refer to them as “The Majestic Horns of Peru”, with obvious sarcasm.

Flat tire in the lobby

Needless to say we got up late only to discover that I had another flat.

When I took the rear tire off I didn’t support the bikes weight from underneath engine. As the rear tire came loose, the bike toppled over to the right hitting the beak on the table in the picture. The silver lining of this situation was that the beak was already cracked in Texas. I’ll buy a new one after the trip.

Old school tire repair shop

Once we got the bike upright, we grabbed the rear wheel and hailed a cab. Once in the cab we realized that cab drivers honk at absolutely everything for any reason. It was really pretty annoying.

Road Shrapnel found in my tire

Once the tire was fixed and the bike was back together we set out for Chalhuanca on our way to Cusco.

Turning around on a dirt road I dropped the bike. When I put my foot down to try to stop the bike from tipping over I jammed Zoe foot between my calf and the metal boxes. Her foot hurt her pretty bad and the people whose house we were in front of brought her a chair and some ice.

By this time it was so late and Zoes foot was really bothering her so we decide to spend another night in Nazca, at another hotel. It was absolutely perfect.
