Nov 15, Creel, Mex to Botapilas, Mex – 200km
Made a wrong turn and winded up at El Divisadero. Not such a bad mistake! Had breakfast at a great hotel there. I dropped the bike downhill when I was leaving. Meaning that both wheels were pointed uphill. I hurt my rib during the fall. It was impossible to lift it by myself. Four of the local kids helped me hoist the beast back up and I was off.

Beautiful Hotel

El Divisadero
When I made it back to the right road, I stopped for couple that had run their engine dry of oil. I back tracked a little ways and picked some up for them, dropped it off and continued on.

She was nicer than she looks in this picture
Batopilas is the town at the bottom of Copper Canyon. These next pictures are of my way down.

Twisty roads perfectly paved

A shrine before the descent on dirt

That river is where I need to get down to, and then continue on that road until I hit Batopilas

The road down is for the most part pretty smooth. Tons of blind 180 degree switch backs.

The bridge to Batopilas
The road to Batopilas was great. Amazing switch backs that kept me too occupied to take any pictures. Also, there wasn’t any room to pull over and snap a quick picture, sheer cliff on one side and a huge drop off on the other. Some traffic but not much.
Batopilas is a great little mining town. Built during the 1740’s, possibly earlier. It is much more than I expected at the end of a long ride down into the canyon. Lots of stories and legend surround the town. Apparently during its hay day the streets were paved with silver. Tons of cool history here.
I made it to Hotel Monse’s before dark. 100 pesos for the evening. After showering and changing I headed over to Carolina’s Restaurant. Met Steve and Richard for the first time and had some great food and some very interesting conversations.
